Dale Walters Feted at Book Release Party

Matt Cody, Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane, and Dale Walters

The Cachet Homes’ Encore at Grayhawk community in Scottsdale, Arizona played host and sponsor to a special event for KeatsConnelly on Wednesday, April 20th to fete the launch of Dale Walters’ first book, Buying Real Estate in the US: The Concise Guide for Canadians.

The book focuses on:

  • How one should “own” the property
  • Avoiding double taxation, non-resident estate tax and other associated tax consequences
  • Protecting oneself from personal liability
  • Reporting any applicable income on both sides of the border

“We wanted to host and sponsor this special event tonight to honor Dale, and also to thank all of our current Canadian residents for choosing us,” said Matt Cody, founder of Cachet Homes.  “We like to think the gated community, as well as our lock and leave lifestyle, are the perfect fit for their active lives in Arizona whether they are here for six weeks, six months or all year-round.”

Likewise, Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane supported the event and even proclaimed the date as “Canadians in Scottsdale Appreciation Day.”  Mayor Lane was joined by members of the local Canadian community, Cachet’s many Canadian residents and folks from the Canada-Arizona Business Council, of which Dale and KeatsConnelly are members.

Additional sponsors included several local businesses with Canadian ties including Henkel, Circle K, Pop chips, ONEHOPE Wine, Weider and many more.

“My life has been a series of fortunate events,” said Walters.  “While working at KPMG, I got involved with preparing international tax returns for foreign individuals working in the Arizona offices of Motorola.  This led me to a fateful meeting with Bob Keats and Tom Connelly, founders of KeatsConnelly, a leading wealth management firm focused on helping people live on both sides of the border.  Within six months, I joined their team.”

In keeping with the fortunate events in his life, working at KeatsConnelly afforded Dale a mentor in Bob Keats.  In addition to being a dual citizen of the United States and Canada and a top cross-border advisor, Keats is also the author of The Border Guide, a Canadian best-selling book from Self-Counsel Press, now in its 10th Edition, which focuses on living, working, investing and retiring on both sides of the border.  Armed with his mentor, Dale earned his Canadian CFP™ designation, making him one of the very first individuals to hold designations on both sides of the border.

In 2004, Dale was named CEO of the firm.

“Since Dale joined our leadership team, KeatsConnelly has been named one of the top firms in the nation by CPA Wealth Provider Magazine on more than one occasion and opened additional offices throughout North America,” said Keats.  “He’s been assisting our clients across the globe on investing in US real estate for 17 years and hopes he can help others through this book.”

Self Counsel Press out of Canada is the publisher of Walters’ book.  For more information or to purchase the book, please click here.
